Samantha Owyang

Originally from northern California, Samantha Owyang is a business administration major, with a specialization in marketing, and film minor expecting to graduate June 2013.

Upon her arrival at UCI, she was appointed Intern of the UC Irvine American Marketing Association and became involved in other business organizations. She was introduced to Delta Sigma Pi from her cousin, a brother of the California State University, East Bay chapter. After attending the recruitment events she felt that Delta Sigma Pi had much to offer and began pledging winter of 2010. Since her initiation, she has held various positions including vice-president chapter operations, director of inter-chapter activities and President.  

From an early age through high school, she played competitive sports including basketball, soccer, track and field, and cross country. Her involvement in sports and clubs has brought her to Atlanta, Portland, Washington D.C. and Spain. While on vacation in Hawaii, she learned to scuba dive and would like to be certified. Other interests include attending Broadway plays and musicals, the ballet and the symphony. For over 8 years, Samantha has developed her passion for snowboarding and takes many trips to Lake Tahoe every year with family and friends.

In high school, she was very active in DECA, an international association of students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship, hospitality, sales and service. As President and Vice President of Public Relations she competed in role plays, case study analysis, and marketing research competitions at the regional, state, and international levels.

Samantha has developed professional experience working for the Alameda County District Attorney, running a local summer program and volunteering for a non-profit organization educating students about diversity. Her internships also include working at West Coast Novelty as a marketing intern; Clear Channel Communications as a Wild 94.9 intern; and The Bohle Company as a public relations intern. She currently works in the marketing department for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Samantha hopes to pursue a career in public relations and event planning in the entertainment industry.
