Kristy Chu

Kristy Chu is a third year Business Economics major at University of California, Irvine. She aims to double minor in Informatics as well as Management by the time she graduates. Before attending UC Irvine, Ms. Chu had gone to Saratoga High School, where she was involved in community service clubs such as Interact Club and Tri-M Music Honors Society. She also played on the Softball team for two years, but was forced to quit in order to focus on academics. Outside of school, Ms. Chu was involved in a Chinese Performing Arts Studio attending dance classes and performing in the annual performances each year. She also played the piano for 8 years and passed the Advanced Level of the Certificate Merit Program. Other than these activities, Ms. Chu enjoys traveling, spending time with close friends, cooking at home as well as eating out and trying different ethnic cuisines.

Out of the not-so-many job experiences Ms. Chu has had, her first and most recent job was at Nordstrom in Westfield’s Valley Fair located in San Jose, California. She worked as a lingerie sales associate for about two and a half months in the summer of 2008. Her daily tasks mostly consisted of assisting customers in a professional setting in person and on the phone, handling the cashier register, and participating in various fundraisers and projects to raise Breast Cancer Awareness. She truly thought this was a great first job experience as it taught her the importance of punctuality, responsibility, and productiveness.

Ms. Chu had first heard about Delta Sigma Pi through Brother Alan Liang but did not decide to join until the spring quarter of her second year. She does not understand why she had not pledged earlier but could not be happier that she is now a part of such an organization. During pledging, her position was the Delta Pledge Class Committee Chair of Activities, in which she assisted Brother Jenny Liu, the Delta Pledge Class Vice President of Activities, with the professional and social pledging events. Although she has not been in the fraternity for very long, she has dedicated much of her time to attending professional, community service, and inter-chapter events put on by the chapter as well as by other chapters. She has recently been appointed Co-Director of Brotherhood and Social Activities with Brother Michael Tam for the new term. She looks forward to planning upcoming events with Michael Tam for the chapter to enjoy.

Despite her dedication to the fraternity, Ms. Chu and a few close friends have recently started up a new club on campus called The Food Club. The club aims to bring together college students who love food and introduce them to eating at good, inexpensive places around Southern California, mainly near Irvine. Besides this new club, Ms. Chu would also like to dedicate some of her time to volunteering at the Irvine Animal Shelter. She has always had a heart for animals, even though her parents had never let her own anything larger than a guinea pig. Ms. Chu also intends to get a real estate license sometime in the near future to sell properties as a side job.

Ms. Chu is also continuously looking for job and internship opportunities to learn as much as she can about the business industry, especially in the financial and marketing departments. She hopes to use what she learns in the informatics and management minors and apply it to a real-life career that combines information & technology with either financial/accounting reporting or the marketing industry.

Overall, Ms. Chu has been on a better track academically since joining Delta Sigma Pi as well as become more goal-oriented and involved in school. She enjoys being with this group of goal-driven and talented individuals, and hopes to inspire those who join the fraternity similar to how the older and experienced brothers have inspired her.
