Tyson Dang

Tyson Dang is a second year Business Economics major at UC Irvine. He is in the graduating class of 2010, working towards a bachelor’s degree. Before going to UCI, Mr. Dang went to high school in Thousand Oaks, CA. There, he took part in many extracurricular activities such as yearbook and journalism. This year, as a college student, Mr. Dang seeks to better prepare himself for his future career endeavors.
As of March 5, 2008, (sophomore year, 2nd quarter) Mr. Dang has completed 73 quarter units in his time at UCI. Most of these courses were major required or for breadth. Out of interest for learning a new language, Mr. Dang is also taking Mandarin Chinese (1 series). Though his major does not require him to learn another language, he hopes to one day utilize this language in his future career.
Though Mr. Dang was involved in extracurricular activities in high school, he has yet to do so in college. The only club Mr. Dang is involved in is Chinese Association. As part of Chinese Association, Mr. Dang participated on the
Dragonboat team. Dragonboat is a paddling sport where a team of about 20 people “hit” the water in unison at a set rhythm to propel the boat. He was a part of this team for two quarters, attended weekly practices and participated in some team activities.
As for work experience, Mr. Dang has been employed twice in his lifetime. His first job was at a pizza restaurant in Thousand Oaks, CA called Toppers Pizza Place. There, he was both a delivery driver and cashier. His second job was at UCI’s Starbucks Coffee as a barista. This job required him to create beverages accurately and timely. Both these jobs gave him experience interacting with customers and working under pressure.
Mr. Dang has had no prior colony experience. He has only just become a member of the Sigma Beta Iota colony, but he knows that he has yet to gain full recognition from other colony members. Since this is the case, Mr. Dang is willing to volunteer additional time towards colony/fraternity needs. Mr. Dang feels great excitement for the things to come with SBI and Delta Sigma Pi. It is in his interest to promote the growth of Delta Sigma Pi at UCI.

It is only now, in his sophomore year that Mr. Dang is starting to look into improving his career and building his resume. His imminent career goal is to find an internship that will give him valuable experience for later in life. This will also allow him to see the types of careers on the market. In addition to internships, he will also apply for graduate school when the time comes. Mr. Dang’s long-term career goal is to find a good job. It is through hard work and persistence that Mr. Dang expects to fulfill his career goals.
College is a place for self improvement for self-motivated individuals. Because the job market has become so competitive, it is necessary to utilize the time in college to gain experience. Mr. Dang is currently on track with his courses, but he realizes that he must further involve himself with the school and community. Delta Sigma Pi is one step towards self-improvement, and to that, Mr. Dang looks forward to a meaningful year.
