Samira Raja

Samira Raja is a student at the University of California, Irvine.  She is currently a fourth year Business Economics major, Management minor and specializing in International Issues and Economics.  She is very passionate about traveling and hopes to find a career in international marketing or law to help her achieve her goals through out her future.

She is born on January 17, 1988 in Santa Monica, California.  She is the eldest of three and has always valued spending time with her family.  Being the eldest, she had to set an example for her siblings and always took that as a very important responsibility.  She has been able to learn a great deal about her culture, family, and priorities at a young age.  Besides spending time with her family and friends, Samira’s biggest passions are interior design and basketball.  She has started playing basketball at a very young age and has play in many leagues, travel club teams as well as her high school team.  Basketball has shaped her into the person she is today.  She would have never been able to learn to work as a team and take initiative in so many other settings if it wasn’t for basketball.  Even though she did not pursue her dream to play in college, she is still apart of intramural teams at school.

Samira’s goal oriented mentality has always been apart of her and she has been a member of many organizations on campus but was not able to find something that she was as passionate about until she heard about Delta Sigma Pi.  After switching majors, Samira wanted to be apart of something that will make her feel like she is making a difference and be around people with the same mind set.  Deciding to pledge for Delta Sigma Pi is one of the best decisions Samira has made towards her career path because she has been able to learn so much about the business world and which routes to take to better herself professionally.  Working in a team and being surrounding with people of similar interests is something she values.  Working on the fundraising committee during pledging has helped her with communication and time management skills, which are both key elements when working in a team and as well as in the work field.  Being able to push herself and motivate others around her to achieve a common goal is something Samira enjoys very much about this fraternity.  She is most interested in the professional events that are put on by the chapter and how informative and insightful they are to everyone.  This motivates her even more to strive to become more well-rounded and help expand her network within the community.

Samira has worked for MJR Insurance over summers of 2003 until 2006.  Even though her duties included, faxing, scanning, organizing files of clients, answering phone calls, she has learned from this independent broker that financial planning is based on professionalism, time management and organization.  Samira has also worked in another insurance industry that focused more on real estate and has learned about their organizational skills and how important it is to know the variety of expectations the company may have.  She was able to see the necessity of teamwork skills in each company in different aspects, like booking a client and helping benefit a client.  She is interesting in the idea of personal and commercial insurance.  Coping with the different tasks and requirements for each team and what each focuses on was something she was able to learn and take with her.  Her most recent job was in a law firm focusing on estate planning.  She was able to see what each person does to help the company and each clients' legal services, which is something that has recently intrigued Samira to pursue.

Being apart of this business fraternity has been a great experience for Samira and is so thankful for this opportunity.  She is always willing to learn more about herself and help expand and give back to Delta Sigma Pi.
