Nicole Wong

Nicole Wong is a third year Business Economics major, Queer Studies minor at the University of California, Irvine.  She plans on graduating in the summer of 2011 with her bachelor’s degree.  After graduation, she plans on attending a graduate school in Southern California and hopes to work with non-profit organizations.

One important aspect in Ms. Wong’s life is family.  She found much inspiration for professionalism and learned her work ethics from her mother, who is an accomplished accountant in Monterey Park.  She also gained insight and creativity from her father, an architect with innovative vision.  From the support of her loving parents and pressures of being a good role model for her younger brother, she finds the drive and motivation to do well in not only school, but in her personal life as well.  The support she receives from her family pushes her to be tactical, ambitious, friendly and humble at the same time.

Ms. Wong is very passionate and serious about academia.  However, on her spare time, she enjoys volunteer work, arts and crafts, attending live concerts, site seeing and exploring new foods.  Nonetheless, academia and her career in school is her top priority.  Since graduating Mark Keppel High School, she took her experiences of being president of American Cancer Edification Society and treasurer of the Senior Student Body to mold her to become the ambitious student she is today.  She believes in the philosophy of balance and moderation; where aside from academia, it is important to find a balance between personal and mental growth within life experiences.

Prior to joining Delta Sigma Pi, Ms. Wong had a few experiences in the work field.  Her first location of employment was the Los Angeles Music Center, where she was an usher for classical music enthusiasts.  Her second employer was Exact Tax, Inc., where she was a secretary and assistant to the owner and manager.  After was her employment as an impact team member at Gilly Hicks, a clothing branch off of Abercrombie and Fitch.  Her current place of employment was gained through the help of a fellow Deltasig once she was initiated.  She currently works for the Special Events Parking and Transportation office on the campus of UCI as a parking attendant for visiting, student and staff patrons.

Ms. Wong was apart of the Delta pledge class for Delta Sigma Pi during the fall of 2009.  Her experiences through pledging were quite priceless as she learned teamwork, pressures of deadlines, and skillful time management; of which such things are key to pledging.  It was then she grew personally and professionally as a person as she learned many new skills such as interview techniques and the importance of uniformity and organization.  She connected and bonded with her fellow pledges, as well as the fellow Delta Sigma Pi brothers after upon initiation.  Within her pledge class, she was historian where she was in charge of capturing the pledging experience through photographs and a scrapbook at the end of the process.  Now as a Deltasig, she is the director of inter-chapter relations, being the liaison between the Pi Sigma chapter and other chapters within the region, province and hopefully, nationally.  Such experiences after initiation has helped Ms. Wong’s growth in her profession and personal network.

Her future ambitions for herself is to volunteer for the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) center on the UCI campus, and to expand her network through internships relating to the business and finance fields.  As for aspirations for her career in Delta Sigma Pi, she hopes to gain tighter brotherhood, established traditions, and a stronger sense of professionalism.
