Lan Lan is a fourth year at the University of California, Irvine, as a business economics major with a minor in management. Her goal is to graduate in June 2012, gain a few years of work experience in the business world, then go on to pursue her MBA at a prestigious school, preferably in the East Coast. She is originally from Cerritos, CA, and has an11-year-old brother who goes to elementary school there. She is a graduate of Whitney High School, which is one of the most prominent high schools in California. In high school, she was captain of the cheer squad, as well being involved in Key Club, California Scholarship Federation (CSF), and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
In her free time, Lan likes to go to the beach, watch movies and try new foods at different restaurants. Her dream job, although unrealistic, is to be a food critic and be able to travel to different parts of the world and try all types of cuisine. Traveling is also a passion of hers and she had the pleasure of spending a couple weeks in Europe this past summer. Even though she was born in China, she has been unable to retain the ability to read and write since she moved to America at age 4. Although she can speak and understand the language, she hopes to improve her reading and writing abilities. She also has a working knowledge of Spanish since she took 4 years of classes in high school.
In high school, Lan worked at Kumon Math and Reading Center for 2 years, tutoring students age 5-17 with math and reading. She found it to be very rewarding working with kids of all ages. It tested her patience and ability to handle herself under high-pressure situations. She then worked at Stone Center Corporation in Anaheim as an administrative assistant. The company imports marble and granite from China and sells it at wholesale prices to customers who wish to refurnish their bathrooms or kitchens. Working here has given her an in-depth look of how to run a small business and she feels like she’s gained many useful skills here as well as developing into more of a people person, which is crucial in the business world. In the fall, she worked at Harvey & Company, a venture capital & private equity firm, as the mergers and acquisitions intern as well as Marcus and Millichap as a commercial real estate intern. She now works at Mohr Partners, another commercial real estate firm, as a project director.
Delta Sigma Pi has been a big part of Lan’s life since she pledged Spring 2010. She has developed herself more professionally than she could’ve ever imagined and loves that she is always surrounded by such driven and ambitious people. She was Director of Fundraising, Vice President of Finance, President, and the Vice President of Pledge Education for the Lambda Class of the Pi Sigma chapter at UCI. She loves giving back to the fraternity because of all it has given her. Overall, Lan likes to keep an optimistic outlook on life and believes that everything happens for a reason and that everything will work out in the end. However, this doesn’t stop her from working hard to accomplish her goals and lead a successful and happy life.
